The misnamed Tea Party's history

Poster's comments in [brackets]
The movement began following Barack Obama's first presidential inauguration (in January 2009) when his administration announced plans to give financial aid to bankrupt homeowners. Following calls by Rick Santelli for a "tea party" by Chicago bond-dealers.
[Political Groups can call themselves anything they want but to use the Boston Tea party as a symbol is a stretch. The new president was a duly elected representative of all the people]
The original Tea Party protesters demonstrated against taxation by the British without political representation for the American colonists.

The Tea Party had generally sought to avoid placing too much emphasis on traditional conservative social issues. National Tea Party organizations, such as the Tea Party Patriots and FreedomWorks, have expressed concern that engaging in social issues would be divisive. Instead, they have sought to have activists focus their efforts away from social issues and focus on economic and limited government issues. Still, many groups like Glenn Beck's 9/12 Tea Parties, Tea Party.org, the Iowa Tea Party and Delaware Patriot Organizations do act on social issues such as abortion, gun control, prayer in schools, and illegal immigration.
The Tea Party movement is not a national political party; polls show that most Tea Partiers consider themselves to be Republicans and the movement's supporters have tended to endorse Republican candidates. [and NRA interests]
Precursor: Background
[Again misusing history]
References to the Boston Tea Party were part of Tax Day protests held in the 1990s and before. In 1984, David H. Koch and Charles G. Koch of Koch Industries foundedCitizens for a Sound Economy (CSE), a conservative political group whose self-described mission was "to fight for less government, lower taxes, and less regulation." Congressman Ron Paul was appointed as the first chairman of the organization. The CSE lobbied for policies favorable to corporations, particularly tobacco companies
[A movement co-opted]
In 2003, Dick Armey became the chairman of CSE after retiring from Congress. In 2004, Citizens for a Sound Economy split into FreedomWorks, for 501c4 advocacy activity, and the Americans for Prosperity Foundation. Dick Armey stayed as chairman of Freedom Works, while David Koch stayed as Chairman of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation. The two organizations would become key players in the Tea Party movement from 2009 onward. Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks were "probably the leading partners" in the September 2009 Taxpayer March on Washington, also known as the "9/12 Tea Party," according to The Guardian.
[Put a white face on Obama call him Reagan then tout his record on foreign and domestic affairs]

He Didn't Mean No Harm

Not all concealed weapons permit holders are as pure as new blown snow

Resident ordered to surrender weapons in sentence

A North Lewisburg man was ordered to surrender firearms and a concealed carry permit to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office as part of a sentence handed down on Monday. ….......It was reported that Cauley again forced his way into the house where the argument continued. He reportedly left the residence and went outside to obtain a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun from his pickup truck.
The caller advised Cauley began walking back to the house and pointed the weapon at her. She advised she was trying to get Cauley to put the gun down and leave.

Pay Attention Voters

How can any sentient voter listen to a bloviating candidate like Trunp, “I will build a wall on the Mexican border and make Mexico pay for it”, or pandering Rubio, “we must secure the border blah blah.. and believe them?
In 2014 all illegal emigrants in the U. S. had declined by one million souls since George Bushs' term ended in 2008. Mexican illegal U.S. residents declined by 1.3 million by that same year.

As the Department of Homeland Security continues to pour money into border security, evidence is emerging that illegal immigration flows have fallen to their lowest level in at least two decades...........

Illegal immigration flows, especially from Mexico, have kept declining, according to researchers and government data.............. At odds with the government’s claims of success, a series of academic studies in recent years have found little linkage between border security and illegal migration.

Ohio Charters Still Suck

January 04, 2016
https://www.the74million.org/article/ohio-fixed-its-scandal-plagued-charter-schools-right-not-so-fast
The state with one of the most notoriously bad charter school sectors in the country took steps a few months ago to reform abuses but whether that new law will be enough to tame Ohio’s “Wild West” of charter schools remains a big question.
The bipartisan legislation to improve the sector was widely heralded, and some went so far  as to declare the problem “fixed.”  But implementing the law in a way that will improve the quality of Ohio’s charters will hinge on creating a tough new accountability system for the organizations that sponsor charter schools.  That task falls to a state Department of Education that is still recovering from a charter school-related scandal.................

February 24,2016
Will Ohio ever get around to setting new charter-school regulations?
Charter sponsors want to delay new evaluations of their performance, arguing that they deserve the same protections that traditional schools are getting this school year.
The Ohio Department of Education reportedly is concerned that such a delay could jeopardize a $71 million federal grant that the state is already struggling to keep hold of in the wake of a charter data-scrubbing scandal.
Meanwhile, some charter supporters continue to push for evaluations to begin counting this year, so the state can begin the three-year process for eliminating poor-performing sponsors and shutting down bad schools.
What it all means is that a bill House Republicans hoped to pass today with a number of new, potentially controversial alterations to charter school regulations is instead on hold for a month.
We need to sit down over the next couple of weeks and work some of this out, see if we can find some compromise language,” said Rep. Andrew Brenner, R-Powell, chairman of the House Education Committee. “I don’t know if it’s possible.”
Meanwhile, some charter supporters continue to push for evaluations to begin counting this year, so the state can begin the three-year process for eliminating poor-performing sponsors and shutting down bad schools.
Later this year, the Ohio Department of Education is expected to release sponsor evaluations for both the 2014-15 school year and 2015-16. It appears likely that lawmakers will ensure sponsors will get protection from the 2014-15 results, but there is much debate about whether the current year results should count.
The Department of Education) has pointed out there are grants contingent on the sponsor evaluations,” Brenner said, referring to a $71 million federal grant the state wants to use to help groups open new charter schools. The state’s grant application for the charter money included inflated claims, such as saying Ohio had no poor-performing charters in 2012-13 even though about a third of schools didn’t meet a single standard on their report cards. The application also was submitted two days before David Hansen, the former state charter schools chief, resigned after it was discovered he illegally rigged sponsor evaluations by excluding poor-performing e-schools.
Hansen's wife, Beth Hansen, is Gov. John Kasich's presidential campaign manager and former chief of staff.
Some of the sponsors are concerned that they’re going to be put at a complete disadvantage because of the way some of their schools are in their portfolio,” Brenner said. “They may have almost all As and Bs in their portfolio of schools, but there may be a few that are bad. They may have tried to tell those schools what to do and make the corrections, but like traditional public schools, they don’t do it.”
Sponsors of low-performing e-schools could struggle because those schools make up a high percentage of their total students.

Cardboard Recycle Plea Recycled

The corrugated cardboard project is at a critical phase and needs increased support ergo these repeat pleas.

Small Business Cardboard Project

City and county small businesses now have the opportunity to recycle clean, flattened corrugated cardboard at the city landfill on Nelson Ave.With that in mind I decided, in coordination with landfill manager Dunham, to test the efficacy of the effort by collecting one week's worth of material from a local store. The manager of the Speedway station on S. South St. agreed to participate in the exercise. In seven days I collected, weighed and delivered 220 pounds of material to the landfill. This amount equates to over 5.7 tons per year. A worthy result, so small guys don't throw those boxes in the dumpster, bring'm on down.

To Those That Care About Their World

And, their grand-children's world!
Come on down to the Wilmington landfill and drop off your flattened, clean corrugated cardboard. The community, including individuals and businesses in and outside the city needs to act now if we are to: a. extend the life of the current facility.
b. keep the cost of the curbside recycling at 0.
c. Return the material for reuse, thus saving finite resources. According to one internet source “...the effect on the environment of recycling one ton of cardboard saves about nine cubic yards of landfill space, 700 gallons of water and forty six gallons of oil.

If participation doesn't increase the program will not be able to continue and those that care will have no choice but to put their material in the trash and that will use up land fill space.
Small business establishments are pouring tons of this reusable material into our landfill every month and we need to give them the an option to do the right thing by making the program work.
Come on down and please, please spread the word.
It's been a long hard struggle to get this program off the ground and we would be a worse off community if we let it die of apathy and neglect.

That Revolving Door Is Spinning

The exit door at the Ohio Statehouse and the entry door at the lobby industry have become one and the same. Some of the pigs can't wait for normal term ending before dinning at the trough they built as a legislator. Remember Cliff Rosenberger's predecessor and the charter school lobby? Shameful!
